Notification System Foundation

The Notification Systems Foundation course focuses on the daily tasks you perform with your Altiris^® solutions. In this highly technical class, you will learn the essential setup and configuration options available with Altiris Notification Server™ 6.0 software as well as best practices for network design, package server configuration, and Web report generation. You will also learn how to perform core processes, including collecting inventory and distributing software. Other skills and knowledge you’ll learn include creating Web reports and learning how to troubleshoot, configure, and build an effective environment. Hands-on labs throughout the class help solidify concepts so you feel confident applying Altiris infrastructure concepts in your organization.

Course Objectives

• Install and configure a Notification System and select Altiris solutions
• Discover resources on your network
• Install the Altiris Agent on discovered resources
• Gather comprehensive data using the Altiris Agent and inventory scan agents
• Set up schedules to automatically deliver applications and tasks to client computers
• Analyze gathered information using predefined reports
• Create custom Web reports
• Troubleshoot a Notification System and its various components

Prerequisites

• Basic understanding and knowledge of Microsoft Windows
• Familiarity with networking concepts, including LANs, network adapter cards, drivers, and network operating systems
• Familiarity with computer hardware components such as hubs, switches, and routers(Optional, but recommended) Familiarity using VMware

• Anyone who will be installing, configuring, and managing Altiris solutions
• Anyone working toward Altiris Certified Professional™ (ACP) or Altiris Certified Engineer™ (ACE) certifications
