Deployment Solution Foundation

Whether you are setting up new computers, migrating computers to new operating systems, moving users to new operating systems or hardware, or installing and managing software application, Altiris® Deployment Solution™ software can simplify your work. In the Deployment Solution Foundation course, you learn how to install, configure, and use Deployment Solution to remotely perform all of these types of tasks from an easy-to-use console, saving you time and your company money. The class provides extensive hands-on work with Deployment Solution using your own network of virtual computers.

Course Objectives

• Install and configure Deployment Solution 6.8
• Manage computers using the Deployment Console and Deployment jobs, including: 
  • Creating and restoring unique computer images without visiting each computer
  • Migrate computer personalities (user files and settings) using PC Transplant® Solution software
  • Installing and configuring AClient, the Altiris Deployment System Agent
  • Installing and configuring the Altiris Automation to support the Deployment System, which includes installing PXE and embedded automation using WinPE, Linux, and DOS as automation operating systems
  • Use the Altiris ImageExplorer to edit image files
  • Use the remote control and chat features to manage computers
  • Installing Software Virtualization Solution™ software, and deploying and managing software applications using layers 
• Set up and maintain strict Deployment System security
• Make self-installing image files for no-hassle and rapid computer recovery
• Create and use hardware-independent images for cross-platform use
• Create and use custom scripts to perform many custom computer management tasks
• Understand and use Altiris tokens to enhance and simplify computer management tasks
• Use Wise Packager to create software installation packages and deploy them using the Deployment Console

Prerequisites

• Basic understanding and knowledge of Microsoft Windows 2000, XP, and 2003 
• Familiarity with networking concepts, including LANs, network adapter cards, drivers, and network operating systems
• Familiarity with computer hardware components such as hubs, switches, and routers
• (Optional, but recommended) Familiarity using VMware

Audience

• Anyone who will be installing, configuring, and managing a Deployment Solution system
• Anyone working toward their Altiris Certified Professional (ACP) or Altiris Certified Engineer (ACE) certifications
